Kerry backtracks on Israel ‘apartheid’ remark, wishes he ‘chose a different word’

Kerry backtracks on Israel ‘apartheid’ remark, wishes he ‘chose a different word’ from Khurram Nazir on Vimeo.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has backtracked on suggestions that Israel could become an “apartheid state,” saying that he wishes he had formulated his sentences differently. It follows a wave of criticism sparked by a leaked recording of his words.

“I do not believe, nor have I ever stated, publicly or privately, that Israel is an apartheid state or that it intends to become one,” Kerry said in a statement published on the US Department of State's website on Tuesday.

“I will not allow my commitment to Israel to be questioned by anyone, particularly for partisan, political purposes, so I want to be crystal clear about what I believe and what I don’t believe,” he affirmed.

Kerry’s original controversy-inducing comment was delivered last Friday during a closed-door conference of the influential Trilateral Commission, and echoed like thunder across the political spectrum…

Would you ever get on a Malaysia Airlines plane again?

Following the destruction of Malaysia Airlines flight 17, which is believed to have been blown out of the sky over eastern Ukraine, shares in the airline’s stock closed down 11% at the end of Friday. The airline has now said that it will offer anyone with a ticket to fly this year a refund—regardless of when it was purchased—if they call before July 24. A kind gesture for their customers, but perhaps not so good for the bottom line. Over the past five years, the airline has lost 92% of its value.

This is the second tragedy to befall the airline in the same year. In March, flight 370 went missing—and has yet to be found, with the biggest toll on the families of the victims. One family from the tiny town of Biloela, Australia, the Burrows, lost close relatives on both flights.

After a year like this, can Malaysia’s state carrier carry on? “I can’t comprehend of anything they can do to save themselves,” aviation analyst Mohshin Aziz told Dow Jones Newswires. “In the history of aviation …

Why Is Israel looking for Imam Mahdi?

During the US occupation of Iraq it was routine to torture Iraqis in prisons like Abu Ghraib whose prison guards were using tactics learnt in Israeli training camps as Robert Fisk pointed out in ‘Abu Ghraib torture trail leads to Israel’; one of the most baffling questions asked during interrogation was “Where is the man called Imam Mahdi where is he hiding?”

According to Mohabat News a pro –Israel Iranian Christian news agency, the fear of the hidden Imam is so credible that they posted news of how the CIA and MI6 have been going to Iraq for the past 20 years to get information about imam Mahdi; how they tortured religious scholars and innocent villagers to ask question based on where the Imam was last seen? Which city? What time and when will he be coming again and in which year?
American corporate media has already shown sinister documentaries depicting the hidden messiah who is apparently advising Iranian politicians from his lofty hidden position and manoeuvring to bring about Ar…

Man sets house afire while trying to kill spider with lighter, spray paint

SEATTLE -- Fire officials say a West Seattle man was using a lighter and a can of spray paint to kill a spider in his laundry room when the house went up in flames.

Fire crews were called to a home in the 10200 block of 34th Avenue SW just before 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Firefighters originally battled the blaze from a distance after learning there may be ammunition inside. Crews were eventually able to extinguish the fire, but not before it did significant damage to the structure.

A man who lived at the home told fire officials he was trying to kill a spider in his laundry room using a can of spray paint and a lighter when the wall caught fire, according to Kyle Moore with the Seattle Fire Department. The man wasn't able to put the fire out himself, and he left the home when it began to spread.

The building, which is a rental home, will cost roughly $40,000 to repair, Moore said. It will cost another $20,000 to repair or replace the contents of the home.

It's unclear if the spi…

The Incredible Shrinking Palestine: a brief history

In 1947, the United Nations granted the Jewish immigrants in Palestine 55% of the Palestinians' homeland, even though they then represented less than 1/3 of the population and had purchased less that 5% of the land. This partition left the Palestinians with only 45%.

The Jewish Agency, which was the provisional government before Israel declared statehood in 1948, immediately began to execute its strategic plan to cleanse its partition of the indigenous Arab population. This plan, developed over the previous decade, was called Plan Dalet. By the time that Israel declared its independence, on May 14, 1948, the majority of the Palestinians living within Israel had been forcibly expelled from their homes by Israeli regular and irregular military forces.

During the war of 1948, Israel not only continued this campaign of ethnic cleansing, but captured an additional 23% of historic Palestine, thereby leaving the Palestinians with only 22% of their ancestral land. By the end of 1949, Isr…

The senior member of the militant organisation Islamic Jihad was sitting on an orange divan outside his house when a rocket struck with clinical precision just before midnight. Hafez Hamad was killed instantly, along with four members of his family. The area where they had been talking just seconds earlier in the sultry Mediterranean heat of Gaza was now a smoking, rubble-strewn crater. A few hours later, a car carrying three Islamic Jihad militants was also hit and its occupants obliterated.
The same morning eight members of one family died as a missile demolished their home, and that night, a group of apparently innocent Palestinians who had gat…
